Many MP3 players, as well as smartphones and other gadgets, use microSD cards to store MP3s and other files. Windows is able to recognize the card immediately and assigns a new drive to it.

Step 1

Connect the microSD card reader to your computer. Some readers must be plugged directly into a free USB port, while others require you to use a USB cable to connect them to the computer.

Step 2

Insert the microSD, or TF, card into the card reader. Windows immediately assigns a drive to your card.

Step 3

Press 'Windows-X' to open the Windows Tools menu and choose 'Windows Explorer' from the menu to open the File Explorer.

Step 4

Navigate to the folder that contains the MP3 files you want to transfer to the card, select the files and press 'Ctrl-C' to copy them to the clipboard.

Step 5

Select the drive assigned by Windows to your card to view the contents of the card in the right pane.

Step 6

Open the folder you want to place the files into and then press 'Ctrl-V' to paste the MP3s from the clipboard into the folder.

Remove the microSD card from the card reader and then disconnect the reader from your computer.

Tips

  • Try to avoid plugging the SD card reader into a USB hub whenever possible; some readers don't work correctly when plugged into USB hubs.
  • You can download MP3s to the card directly from the Internet; simply select the drive assigned by Windows to the card when the Web browser prompts you to select a folder in which to store the downloads.
